Justin F. (December 13, 2008)

Well, its Justin again and we are almost done with the first half of rehearsals. So far we have learned music and done some casting. Honestly it seems as if there's great chemistry between all of the principal characters. It should be a great show. Honestly even though I had done YES Company before I wasn't sure if I was going to fit in with kids but I met some awesome people: Stephanie, Alanta, Kayla, Kodi, Mitchell, Tricia, just to name a few. There are so many more but it would take so long to name them all. I'm lucky to be surrounded by all these insanely awesome people, its seriously a blessing from God. I know that all the jokes and fun will continue! From, the street rat, um, I mean, son-in-law joke with Jacob (he was cast as Aladdin) to doing the wheelbarrow with Chris and Merrick in the freestyle movement, the good times keep on rolling!

Justin F. (December 9, 2008)

Well,  I am Justin F and I'm lucky to be in YES Kids. This is my first year of yes kids. I have done company and tech for ambassadors and mentored for Kidettes. Anyway, we've had two days of rehearsal, just doing the usual first week things. One challenging thing is that we didn't have callbacks and Melanee is casting during the first few weeks, so instead of being on our game for 4 hours, we have to be perfect for 8 days! Anyway, there's many people I don't know but I do hope to get to know them. When we were separated into groups, for movement and skits, it was interesting because our mentor was only a year older than me. It's interesting to make the transition from mentor to Kid, but I am having a whole lot of fun. Disney's Aladdin, Jr. is a comedic play, and based on the skits we're don so far this is the perfect cast for it! So here's to another great YES show!

Chris H. (December 1, 2008)

YES KIDS! Thank you to all who auditioned and for everyone's patience through the casting process. We had a blast producing a stellar Disney's The Jungle Book, Kids with the YES Kidettes. Many YES Kids alumni, and many currently cast in Aladdin acted as Mentors to the younger students. I'm certain they'll be able to apply their newly acquired leadership skills to their peer relations and future theatrical productions! Way to go Mentors!!!

Congrats to all and I look forward to meeting the 08-09 KIDS cast and their families! I encourage YES Kids participants, mentors, parents/guardians, volunteers, and community members to submit a blog letting us know about your YES experience.

Justin F. (December 17, 2008)

Well, this is Justin and here's my Ambassadors blog. YES Ambassadors is an awesome program, with many memories and jokes. From the insane week of 5 run-throughs in one day, to us freezing at outside performances; From getting out of school for a performance, to time when me and Keaton networked at Gallo... there have been some great times.

A crazy story actually happened less than 24 hours prior to writing this. So -  Keaton and I thought we had a performance when actually it was the next day... So we go to SCOE and are told by the security guard that someone from YES had come and said something about 16th street (we were on 12th Street), so we jog to 16th street and call Mr. Joliff and Melanne and find out it's actually tomorrow.

So we walk back to SCOE, and since we had to kill time we walk into H Street Cafe and are like "how is it  goin'? How long have you been open?" 5 years come to find out!

"Merry Christmas from YES!" I say. "We should sing."

Keaton says, "No."

They say, "Yes!" So we sing We Wish You a Merry Christmas then walk back to SCOE.

Well that was my craziest Ambassadors story. Thanks for reading. Peace out!

Alex L. (December 12, 2008)

Hey guys its Alex. I just got home from singing to Mel’s mom with you guys. That meant so much to me that I was able to perform for her. I love being a YES Ambassador. Besides YES Company, it is my favorite thing to do in my whole life. I'm really sad I wasn’t able to do all of the performances, but the ones I was able to go to were really some of the best times I’ve ever had. I love being with you guys and getting to know you even better.

As you all probably know now, school isn’t my favorite thing to do and since you do know me, you know that I always try to have fun with everything (sometimes that’s what gets me in trouble), but I try never to have a dull moment. Sometimes my home isn’t the most fun place to be either. You should see the look on my face when I'm on my way to YES; I’m smiling from ear to ear because this is one of the only things I do that makes me feel like being at home should feel like. You guys (like it or not) are my family and I love each and every one of you like you wouldn’t believe. When I’m at school I look forward to coming to Ambassadors and when I’m down this is what I think of to get me up (being with you guys).

I’m so thankful that I am in Ambassadors and it means so much to me that I have had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know all of you. I’m already looking forward to seeing you guys again. I really don’t know what I’m gonna do with myself from now until the next time, but if I don’t talk to you guys or see you I hope you all have a merry Christmas and happy holidays.

Love, Alex

Carma M. (November 22, 2008)

Hi! My name is Carma, I am six years old.  The play was really cool.  It just made me excited and it was just really really awesome.  Everybody looked very good and they didn't mess around and I was really quiet backstage and so were other people.  Bye and I'm in the jungle book again today.  Hope to see you there!  Bye!

Justin F. (November 3, 2008)

Hey everyone! I'm Justin F. and I'm am a production mentor for the YES Kidettes this year. Man these kids are awesome to work with. These kids have many blossoming talents and I'm looking forward to watching them grow.  There are some problems - just minor little things... like one kid  was  slightly upset that another kid was calling him by a variation of his name. Anyway, they're still fun to work with! It's also fun just being at a YES rehearsal again... ah many months since wizard of oz.... anyway thanks for reading!

Megan S. & Emily Kay S. (October 23, 2008)

Hey it's Meagan, and Emily! We've been YES mentors for the Jungle Book! The kids are all wonderful and full of energy. They are all very enthusiastic and ready to learn about theater and themselves, which is very inspiring to all of the mentors.

This is going to be an amazing show and we can't wait to see the kids grow and prosper in their theater abilities!

Noah B. (October 23, 2008)

In rehearsal we imagined a place, somewhere where we have been before or not. This helps our imagination and we can think about our character and what they would be like instead of what we would be like. Melanee is the best director I've met because some just snap at you and some are too smiley. I'm playing the old monkey...everyone laughed when my role was announced, because its a wield name and he's the "old" character in the show. The best part of performing is the applause at the end of the show. I also like the part when people stand to show you that you've done a good job.
